Before I started at the City of Reno, the organization had a number of social media accounts: Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and YoutTube. Unfortunately the web manager before me did not implement an analytics program, so there were no measurements for successes or failures. One of the first tasks I designated for myself at the City was to begin an analytics program, a way to quantify both traditional and digital engagement efforts.

Below is a snapshot of my social media (I started the City’s Instagram, G+ and Tumblr) and blogging efforts during the first year at the City of Reno, and how I manage analytics across all channels.

The graphs below are summaries of monthly analytics across all channels. We’re measuring and comparing numbers quarter by quarter. Some of the numbers are acquired via Hootsuite and Google Analytics, others are manually acquired.
